Becoming a Successful Realtor

Real estate investment has been successful enough that thousands of Realtors join the ranks of selling real estate every year. Today, there are more than two million people who are registered Realtors through the National Association of Realtors.

With all of this competition, it takes a lot more than simply a piece of paper known as a license and a general understanding of the laws associated with real estate to become successful today. On top of this competition, the recession has made the real estate market drop dramatically.

Surveys have shown that 40 to 80 percent of the beginning real estate agents stop within the first year of selling real estate. This is a result of not being able to sell as many homes as they had hoped.

In addition, 90 percent of Realtors will give up within their first three years. There are many things you can do to avoid becoming part of the 40, 80, or 90 percent.

The first thing you need to remember is that you are a business in and of yourself. Yes, you may work for a broker, but you are independent.

You are responsible for making your own sales. You are responsible for making sure your personal business is very successful.

The second thing you will need to remember is to cultivate a planning, but cheerful attitude. Consider the idea that if you do not have a plan for your own life, then you will become part of another person’s plan.

In the case of real estate, you may become a puppet that is manipulated by a more successful Realtor. Put the planning of your own life ahead of planning a vacation.

You must have you own life planned out with goals and purpose if you are going to get anywhere. Without purpose you will lack the motivation to save for a something special or to go the extra mile to help someone find the right home instead of simply making a sale.

The third thing you will need to do is put a lot of time, effort and planning into your market plan. Developing an effective market plan is critical to your success as a Realtor.

As you are running your own business, you will be responsible for covering your own marketing expenses. It is important that you use your funds effectively.

This means that you will need to spend a significant amount of time researching what will work in your area. The time you spend researching marketing methods will definitely be one of the most worthwhile uses of time that you could allocate.

The fourth thing you will need to do is create a sales goal. Your sales goals should be based on your strategic action plan.

If you are new to real estate, be aware that it could take you six months before you make your first sale. Keep this in mind and try to make your goals realistic.

It is likely that you will have to adjust your goals as you gain experience. This is very normal and no reason for discouragement.

The fifth thing you will need to do is create a financial budget. Your budget will determine what kind of marketing campaign you can fund.

Real estate is a very volatile business. It is important that you budget cushion room.

Be sure to calculate in your daily living financial obligations, your marketing campaign, and the money you will need for gaining an education about real estate. Your budget may influence your sales goals as well.

The sixth thing you will want to make sure you do is managing your time correctly. You are running a business.

You are going to be very busy. In order to be successful you are going to need to manage your time effectively.

Professionals will tell you that real estate is a 24/7 job. It is like running a small business.

There may be times when you will have to stay late to manage a crisis effectively. However, your family life and personal life are very important as well.

As you continue making your business plans and sales, you will want to continue learning in every way that you can. Find a more experienced or retired Realtor and ask for their advice.

This advice can be absolutely invaluable and may even save your business somewhere along the line. As you continue to learn you will find success and become a professional and popular Realtor in your area.
