For years, people from across the world have been flocking to Utah each winter to experience the beautiful outdoors-particularly its many marvelous ski resorts that boast the greatest snow on earth.
Park City Resorts is one of the most frequented resorts in Utah. It has much more to offer than just a wonderful mountain to ski or snowboard on.
The city was formed as a mining town in the 1860s after discovery of silver, gold and lead. It was officially founded and dedicated in 1872.
For years it thrived as a mining town, even while other mines across the county had become depleted and abandoned. In 1963 the ski resort opened.
Nearly 50 years later and this small town of merely 8,000 attracts over 3 million average annual visitors. So what is so enticing about this mountain village?
For starters, it’s only a quick 20-30 minute drive from the Salt Lake City International Airport, making it a convenient tourist attraction. In addition, the city has a beautiful atmosphere and plenty of fun things to do.
If you travel to Park City you should take the time to visit their historic down town. It’s worth your time to take a stroll along Main Street.
Main Street is full of many, wonderful shops. You’ll find some shops are your typical tourist gift shops but the street is also full of many artists’ galleries, furniture and clothing stores, and fine restaurants.
If your pocketbook can handle it, consider the Riverhorse Cafe, specializing in steak and seafood. If you’re looking for something sweet, the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Another reason tourists come from all over to this beautiful place is because of its role in the yearly Sundance Film Festival. In the past couple of years, the city, which hosts many of the festival’s films, has become a magnet for celebrities.
If you visit Park City during the film festival you’re bound to run into someone famous. And since the sidewalks can be quite narrow, that just might literally happen.
As was mentioned earlier, Park City attracts skiers and boarders from across the world to its huge mountain. And if for some reason you get bored with Park City Mountain you can visit The Canyons Resort, Deer Valley, Snowbird or Alta-all a 20-45 minute drive, depending on which one you choose.
These are truly incredible resorts to ski or snowboard on. For example, the biggest resort in Utah-The Canyons Resort-boasts a total of 8 peaks and 21 lifts.
If cold weather or winter sports aren’t your thing there is still plenty to do at Park City in the summer. In fact, nearly half of all tourist visits come in the summer months.
The city is now longer a mining town but during the summer months you can visit parts of the old mine. You can even schedule tours to go down the shafts and explore the tunnels.
You may not strike it rich but you can certainly find ways to spend some money there. Get your picture taken, hard hat and all, or buy some fancy souvenirs.
The base of Park City Mountain transforms from a ski resort to an outdoor theme park for the summer. There are fun things to do for outdoor enthusiasts and for families.
The Alpine Slide is a popular activity here. It looks similar to what you might see at a water park but you ride down in a toboggan of sorts.
For more of a thrill there’s a rollercoaster you can ride down that actually carries you through the tops of the trees. There are also activities for the kids such as a merry-go-round.
The area is also privy to hundreds of miles of hiking trails and biking trails. It is not uncommon to spot deer, moose, birds and other wildlife while enjoying these beautiful and scenic locations.
Lastly, one reason people love to come to this quaint town is to simply get away. In the past couple of years several beautiful homes have been constructed around the Park City area.
