The winter season is a great time to go on vacation. Many people escape from the grey skies and the snow to a warmer, sunnier or tropical vacation spot.
Being able to get a tan in the middle of winter is a definite plus of vacationing to the warmth. When choosing your vacation spot for this winter season, it could prove to be very worthwhile for you to find a winter wonderland to vacation to instead.
The snow and winter can be frustrating and less than ideal when you have to shovel your driveway, drive to work in the freezing cold and keep your heater on 24/7.
The winter can be so much more majestic if you are relaxing in a beautiful lodge by a fire you did not have to build after a day of skiing or snowboarding on the nation’s best runs.
Even if you do not have the proper equipment to snowboard or ski, you should not be deterred. Many resorts offer packages for rentals and lift passes that make renting your equipment fairly inexpensive.
Even if snowboarding and skiing are not sports you enjoy, the majority of the winter resort cities in the United States offer a wide variety of activities for visitors. If you want to snowmobile or spend your vacation at a spa, vacationing to a winter spot may make for the best winter vacation you have ever had.
SKI magazine has rated the Deer Valley resort the #1 ski resort in North America three years in a row. It is important when researching vacation spots to find out exactly why the most acknowledged destinations have gained their reputations to find out which resort is the best for you.
The Deer Valley resort is nestled in the Wasatch Mountains, surrounded by many other ski resorts. To compete with the countless number of nearby resorts, Deer Valley offers a unique feel and caters to a more upscale clientele.
The resort offers services such as free ski valets, free parking shuttles, fine dining and boutique shopping. The main lodge at the resort is a sight to see in and of itself, offering spa services and a place for those just navigating the mountains to relax, wind down and warm up.
The guest services at the resort have been developed very carefully. Providing complimentary overnight ski “check” services, free tissues in the lift line, a state-licensed child-care facility and making sure every employee is in uniform are many ways that the resort tries to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
If you are looking for a resort at which you can snowboard, Deer Valley is not the place for you. There are only three winter resorts in America that still prohibit snowboarders from riding their slopes, and Deer Valley is one of them.
Deer Valley, Alta and Mad River Glen have been the subjects of much ridicule because of their refusal to include snowboarders in their potential clientele. Some snowboarders argue that this is a direct violation of the Constitution of the United States.
The snowboard manufacturer Burton Snowboards took offense to these no snowboarding policies and decided to battle the resorts head on. The company offered $5,000 for video footage of riders snowboarding at any of the three forbidden resorts.
Many riders went to great lengths to sneak in snowboards and snowboard down the coveted mountain sides. The Ski Patrol will politely ask you to remove your snowboard and leave the vicinity if you are found snowboarding on their mountainside.
If you are not interested in snowboarding, you can enjoy the slopes that Deer Valley has to offer with fellow skiers. The resort has been recognized worldwide after hosting events in the 2002 Olympic Winter games and multiple World Cup Events.
In the 2002 Winter Olympics Deer Valley’s stadium was 12 stories tall, seating 10,000 guests. Freestyle aerial events were held on the White Owl Run, the Champion Run held the Olympic mogul events and the you Know you Don’t run was the site for the slalom events.
In 2003 the resort held the 2003 World Freestyle Ski Championships. In 2011 the World Freestyle Ski Championships are scheduled to be held there again, making this resort the only American resort to be chosen to host twice.
FIS World Cup events are also hosted by Deer Valley. Hosting mens’ and womens’ mogul and aerial competitions yearly since 200 and a skicross event in 2008, Deer Valley has become very affluent and recognizable throughout the skiing community in the U.S.
